What Is "Predator X?"

About 150 million years ago lived a creature whose bite would put the Tyrannosaurus Rex to shame. At the top of the oceanic food chain, "Pliosaurus funkei" grew to a massive fourty feet in length. In Norway in 2006, two Pliosaurus skeletons were discovered. One was much larger than the other, and the topic of a new species had been debated ever since. Recently, however, it has been confirmed that the fossilized remains are that of an entirely new carnivorous species, previously unknown to science.

Cryptid of the Week - The Altamaha-ha

Altamaha-ha

An artist's version of the Altamaha-ha
The legend of the Altamaha-ha comes to us from the quiet Southern state of Georgia. Along the Altamaha River, local legend and folklore tell of a creature that "looks like a sturgeon, swims like a dolphin, and has the snout of an alligator." Its described as grey in color, and is considered harmless to humans, as there are no reported incidents of an Altamaha-ha attack. The legend dates back to at least the eighteenth century and includes tales from local native american tribes.

Paranormal...What Does It Mean?

If you're reading this blog, you've more than likely heard and used the word "paranormal." For some, its an everyday word. For others, it may be used less often. Regardless of the frequency of use, some of those among us do not fully understand what this term means. So, without further ado, lets dive into the world of etymology...

From Dictionary.com - "par-a-nor-mal, adjective - of or pertaining to the claimed occurrence of an event or perception without scientific explanation, such as psychokinesis, extrasensory perception, or other purportedly supernatural phenomena."

In other words, "paranormal" would pertain to any events or experiences that science cannot explain at the current moment. Para is of Latin origin, meaning "above, against, counter, outside, etc." Therefore, paranormal literally means "against or counter to the normal.

Ghostly and spiritual encounters, cryptids, extraterrestrials and UFO encounters, crop circles, spontaneous human combustion, and other things all fall under the paranormal category. The word has an extensive range of meanings and uses, and hopefully this article has helped to show that "paranormal" does not only refer to "ghosts and hauntings."

Cryptid of the Week - Chickcharney

The Chickcharney is a cryptid that most closely resembles an owl, said to live on Andros Island in the Bahamas. Sightings continue to this day, and it is said that you will have good luck if you treat the creature nicely. Science believes the sightings may be of "Tyto pollens," an animal thought to have gone extinct in the 16th century.
